Out of the items on my list last month, I purchased an Akola necklace (x2, great sale!), a Barbara Gerwit dress (another great sale!), and I am striking the Apple Watch off of my list because I bought a new little Fitbit instead. It was absolutely the right choice.
Custom Ring – I went to try on my new ring over the weekend and it’s still not quite ready. This process has taken way longer than I had hoped, but I can’t wait for the final result!
New Computer – This is still on hold. I’m going to wait a bit now that I am settling into new car payments.
There’s nothing else on my wish list at the moment, but I’m sure that will change come September!
My little brother just moved into his first apartment and in true boy fashion, it was decorated like a dorm room… Big sister to the rescue!
The first thing I did was rearrange his furniture. His sofa was facing the windows and there is a street light that points inward so if he ever fell asleep on the sofa or had a guest, they would be staring into a light. He also had a small flag on a large wall and was going to hang his American flag over the windows. I made him hang the flag on the larger wall since he didn’t have anything else that was large to place there. His bed was facing a wall where the light from the street lamp appears at night and he was having trouble sleeping. I rotated his bed so that he wouldn’t be staring at the light. We also hung some other things that required two people. It’s not a masterpiece, but it’s a pretty good start towards a man cave.
Because he is the baby in the family, he gets everyone’s sloppy seconds. The sofa came from our grandmother, the chairs came from… who knows where and everything else was just leftovers from home redecorating projects. New lamps are going to be a high priority as right now he has outdoor solar lights stuck into candle stick holders…. That’s got to go! The kid has bare bones supplies so I’m helping him stock up.
To get things started, I ordered him some super basic dishes from Amazon ($27.50) and silverware from Ikea through Amazon ($27.79). I then ordered a bunch of kitchen basics from Ikea (the grater is for me) and spent less than $60 on a bunch of mess he needed for the kitchen. All in all I spent less than $115.00 setting up his kitchen.
There is a lot of mess that he needs and I’m working through a pretty solid list: Sofa pillows, floor lamp, table lamps, wall mirror, entertainment center or tv stand and set of shelves, baskets for entry shelves, bed risers, and a chair for the bedroom. I’ll be sure to share any other good deals I come across in this process.
A couple of weekends ago, I took a short trip to the little mountain town of Blowing Rock, NC. The town hasn’t changed much as a whole, but the shops have improved significantly and I really enjoyed sticking my head in every one of them. The air is cool there, which makes the flowers last so much longer and beautifully arranged planters and flower beds are everywhere.
I fell in love with a tiny store called Take Heart that happens to be in one of the oldest buildings in the town. They sell flowy tunics, night gowns and little rememberances. I purchased a super cute top ($29.50/could only find the yellow version online), white bon bon ($17.50/not pictured) earrings and a Lulie Wallace lunch pale ($17.50).
Down the way, I popped in Finley House Couture and fell in love with these Susan Shaw earrings. Because I work at a resort built around Equestrian Sport, I had to have them.
I also stopped in a quirky store called Mrs. Brumbles. It was full to the brim with victorian lamps, jeweled figurines and positively littered with funky jewelry. What really caught my eye were the small selection of shawls. They looked just like the cashmere poncho/shawls you would find in a really fine boutique, but they were acrylic and only $30! Of course I bought two… one pale green and one red. I don’t have photographs of them so I will have to post about them when I wear them next.
Blowing Rock is a super cute place with fun restaurants and the scent of fresh fudge billowing rom their centrally located Kilwins can be smelled all over town. It’s a great place to cool off in the summer and a very pleasant place to take a stroll. I’m going to be spending more time there in the summers now that I know how easy it is to get to!
I have decided not to get an iWatch after all. Hearing so many mixed reviews has made me very hesitant to spend that much on one item that I will probably be frustrated by.
Instead, I purchased the updated version of my old Fitbit.
I bought this about a week ago and I had trouble getting it to synch right from the get go. I contacted Fitbit’s online support and they sent a replacement that same week. The new one works perfectly and I LOVE it!
I am back on track with my steps with its reminders to move, I don’t miss a call now that it vibrates to alert me, it can also tell you when you get a text. I like that it’s small and doesn’t steal attention from my bracelets. It’s just what I needed!
They are listed as $99.95 on Fitbit’s website, but I bought mine at Best Buy for only $59.96. Sometimes it does pay to visit the store!
The speaker I purchased on Prime day turned out to be a dud and I had to return it.
Instead of replacing it, I took advantage of a sale at the Container Store and bought my dream jewelry box. I have been stalking their site for a while and am really excited about this order.
This order should have cost $99.97, but the promotion took of $25.00!
I have also recently joined Ebates and I should be getting 4% cash back from my order.
I hoaned in on one item to purchase during Amazon’s Prime Day this year.
I have a lot of friends who have Bose bluetooth speakers and the sound is fantastic. I have a set of speakers that I love, but they must be plugged into the wall and I have been looking to buy a nice portable speaker for some time now.
Originally $199.00, this speaker was reduced to $179.00 and then an additional $50.00 off for Amazon Prime Day. With tax and free shipping, I only paid $137.71. That’s a pretty good deal! I can’t wait to begin using it!
It has been over a year since I purchased my Bloom palette and I have used all that is left are the more dramatic color. I had been looking for a new basics palette and settled on the Naked2 palette by Urban Decay. I had the original Urban Decay Naked Basics pallet before and enjoyed it but wanted to try something new.
I picked up this palette at Ulta for $29.00 and had $8.00 in rewards that brought it down to $21.00. I have been using it for a couple of weeks now and I like it better than the original. The tones are softer and I am able to use all of the colors. They are flat in tone so I punch it up with a little sparkle from what is left of my Tartelette palette.
