Always ask if a store price matches. It doesn’t hurt to ask.
A few weeks ago I went to Staples to buy a USB-C adapter for my new MacBook. The prices seemed high and when I scanned the barcode on one of the items, I found that Amazon’s price was lower.
The cord I was buying was $19.99. Amazon was offering the very same cord for $13.60. Apparently Staples offers a lower price guarantee and they took $7.03 off of their sticker price! After tax I spent only $13.83. I was absolutely thrilled!
Doesn’t it seem like as soon as you find the perfect shade of lipstick (or bra), it gets discontinued? That’s basically what happened to me with my favorite Clinique lipstick. My go-to shade was 24 Nearly Violet and I was sad when I went to buy a new tube and they didn’t carry it anymore.
Clinique issued a new shade that’s similar called FA Beauty. I like it fine, but it’s a little bit different. Looking at the photo above you might laugh and think I’m crazy, but they are different. Nearly Violet had a deeper hue and Beauty has a more coral tone. I like both, but I really wish they hadn’t discontinued my favorite color.
I am in love with my new MacBook. It’s so tiny and it’s just a smidgeon lighter than the MacBook Air. I didn’t have a case small enough for my computer so of course I checked out what was available on Amazon.
This case set is only $12.99 and they come in a bunch of colors.
The mini case is perfect for my power cord and adapters and keeps them separate so my computer doesn’t get scratched. I highly recommend this set case.
Since listing my spare room on Airbnb, one of my guests killed my Keurig.
I wasn’t upset that the Keurig broke. I was upset that the guy didn’t tell me and the next time I went to make coffee, my counter flooded. Not cool.
My little red Keurig had survived many moves and I think it was about 7 years old.
I thought about getting a larger Keurig one with a reservoir, but my Keurig sits by my sink and it’s no trouble to dump a cup of water in the top. When I ordered a new one I got the same model in black from Amazon for $62.99. These usually run $99.99. Hopefully this one will last just as long as the old one.
I feel so incredibly lucky! My neighbor invited me to go with them to hear Fortune Feimster perform in Asheville on September 22nd and it was AWESOME!
Fortune has worked with Chelsea Handler, John Mulaney and Mindy Kaling and is hilarious in her own right. She is from my home county and went to the same small women’s college as my mom. This small world get smaller in that she babysat my neighbor’s kids when they were little.
My neighbors had a little reunion with Fortune and her mother after the show and we all got photos and t-shirts and enjoyed ourselves immensely.
I laughed until I cried and after all of the mess I have been going through before and after the latest car accident, I really needed a good laugh.
What a strange and wonderful thing it was to witness the total solar eclipse this year. I happen to live very close to the path of totality and witnessed the eclipse at 99.98% totality and it’s something that I will never forget.
The CFO of the company I work for has a home in Spartanburg, SC and he and his wife hosted a little get together at their house where we watched the eclipse. Our company owns a manufacturing plant and the guys let us borrow their welding masks so we could safely view the eclipse. We all took turns using the masks and the few eclipse glasses we had and were awestruck.
The sky dimmed into twilight.
The street lights came on.
The crickets chimed in.
It was truly bizarre and then it was over.
We tried to capture it on camera, but didn’t have the forethought to bring our real cameras so our phones kept adjusting to the light. I pulled the imaged above from Facebook from friends and folks who captured the eclipse so beautifully. I did manage to snap a few photos of our group all looking skyward to document the occasion.
Though it was over in just a few moments, I am so glad I took the time to go see it. It was humbling to know that so many other people were united in looking up at the sky that day.
This is real life y’all.
Tucked away in the foothills of the North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains is a lake called Lake Lure. Lake Lure was one of the film locations of the cult film Dirty Dancing. On the one edge of the lake there is a genuine beach. It’s completely bizarre to see in person. The scene of folks entering the beach is just like that at the beach at the coast, but with mountains and the beach accesses a lake and not the ocean.
I knew there was a “beach” at Lake Lure, but I need knew how legit it was. Next year I plan to go there often.
Bizzarre, but awesome.
