I Really Hope This Works!

I love to laugh, don’t you?

I am forever sending funny clips, gifs, or memes to my family and friends, but there are some I want to save and look back on and share again. I’m hoping that if I embed them on my blog that you will be able to view and enjoy them also.

Here goes nothing!

AirPods. Get some.

I don’t know about you, but I spend a heck of a lot of time on the phone at work.

In an effort to keep my hands free, I have used both headphones and speakerphone, but there are downsides to both. Too much of what I am on the phone about is confidential and shouldn’t be played over speakerphone and the sound quality is garbage. I like the sound quality of the headphones better, but I get tangled up in it and that is super frustraiting. At one point I took a giant rubber band and attached my desk phone to my head. I really needed my cell phone attached to my head without a cord.

The solution:
Apple AirPods

I thought AirPods were silly at first and I was so sure that I would lose them. That was until I got a pair for my sister for Christmas. I started thinking about them more seriously once I tried them for myself. I can sum them up in one word: DOPE.

A month after Christmas I had a particularly intense day of phone calls and I was having trouble keeping up with what I needed to be doing while on the phone. Pinching my phone between my ear and shoulder was sending my back into spasms and I knew it was time to cave and get a pair of Apple’s AirPods.

Because I live in the middle of nowhere, I had to call a few places before I found somewhere that sold them. I picked up a pair that same day and I am not exaggerating when I say that these things have changed my life.

Now my company’s CFO, COO and Construction Director all have them and we can’t believe we didn’t get them sooner. We all have Apple Watches so we can see who is calling and with the AirPods, we can accept the call on our wrist and the audio goes straight to the earbuds. By wearing them one at a time we can switch throughout the day as we ware down the battery and need to recharge. These are a game changer.

If you are on the fence about this product, take this as your push to get a pair.
They are truly fantastic.

Bowdre’s New Business <3

My friend and sorority sister, Bowdre Fortson, has just accomplished something I only dream about. She has started her own business and I am so very proud of her.

Bowdre (pronounced bow-drew…like tree, but dree) lives in Spartanburg, South Carolina and works at our alma mater Wofford College. A few years ago, her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and she had a real rough go of it. In true Bowdre form, she has taken a tough situation and rallied to make a difference. She has been raising money towards breast cancer research for years now and has expanded her passion for fundraising to benefit The American Heart Association.

Through her website, www.blessyourheartstationery.com, she is selling Valentines Day cards in singles and packs of 5. If you are planning to buy Valentines this year, please consider ordering from Bless Your Heart Stationary. Sales proceeds will go to The American Heart Association.
Please share this far and wide!
Thank you.

Changing Things Up

As you may have noticed, I changed the name of this blog.

When I started this blog, it was the next chapter in a shopping blog I kept on Blogspot called Armoire of a Reverie. Dumb name…I know. I had a descent following on that site. Elizabeth McKay actually followed me. I was finishing up college and had loads of time and energy to put into mixing and matching things that I was wearing. It didn’t hurt that I had loads and loads of clothes back then.

Fast forward five years: I have moved 3 times and have taken on some pretty difficult jobs. With each move, I left things behind and changed what I was wearing to better fit what I was doing. It became exhausting to keep up the parade of outfits and accessories. It was exhausting to pack and unpack all of that mess every time I moved. I’m tired just thinking about packing all of that mess. (I’m still selling stuff, if you’re interested)
Game over.

When I moved to this blog, I intended to focus on my gift for seeking out sales. I am signed up for just about every newsletter out there and I can almost feel it in my bones when a good sale is about to hit. I published notices about sales and posted show and tell pieces after I had shopped the sales myself. This was tough to keep up.

My shopping habits changed in a pretty noticeable way in the past year. Instead of mopping up at every great sale, I would pick up a few staple pieces. Plain stuff. Boring stuff. Bread and butter stuff. Stuff that doesn’t get readers excited. Basically… I got boring.

Sorry I’m not sorry!

I find myself gravitating towards more plain items now. I love items that can be worn with anything and I LOVE being able to grab something simple and not think too much about it. It is a pretty interesting change from what I was into only a few years ago. Layering necklaces and an abundance of color are just not my deal anymore.

So about the name…
What’s the deal?

What’s the deal with this blog?

I don’t know.
Won’t you stick around to find out?

Here Comes The Sun

I was in high school when Jergens came out with their gradual tanning lotion. It was kind of a big deal. All of us lily white girls bought and used the stuff as we tried to get color before prom. I will never forget the smell and how orange everyone became. Obviously there were some kinks to be worked out. Anyone not using the Jergens method, were getting spray tans and looked equally as orange. We were all new to this and it showed.

It has been about twelve years since I tried, and subsequently ditched, my first tanning lotion. I figured it was time to give it another go. Surely a decade was long enough for improvements to be made.

I recently purchased Nivea’s Sun-Kissed Radiance Fair to Medium Gradual Tanning Lotion and gave it a whirl. I love Nivea products and had high hopes for this lotion and I was not at all disappointed. The lotion feels great, as all Nivea lotions do, and the smell is very mild. But the big question stands: How well does it work?

As you can see by the photo below, this lotion works surprisingly well!

The photo on the left was taken before the first application. The second photo was taken in the evening after two applications; one the night the first photo was taken and another the following morning. I didn’t realize how effective the lotion was until I put the photographs together. It seems more subtle in person. I’m glad I took the pictures because I probably would have over done it in a hurry with two applications a day. I’m going to dial it back to one application every other day.

My purpose for trying this new tanning lotion was to get a little color on my legs before it’s time to wear skirts and dresses without black stockings. I also want to have some base color before I go to the beach in a couple of months. Ideally I plan to get some real sun on my legs to help deepen the color provided by the lotion. The lotion is great, but I can see how without real sun the lotion will begin to appear orange from use over time.

In summary, I really like the lotion. It provides gradual  and even color, feels great, and doesn’t stink! That is a substancial improvement over the old Jergens product. Nice job Nivea. Two thumbs up!

A Very Merry Christmas

Ok, now for Christmas proper.

When I went home to my parent’s house for Christmas, I took one look at their Christmas tree and knew we needed a replacement. Mom bought her tree at Thanksgiving and it was just as dead as it could be by Christmas. The ornaments were literally slipping off of the tree. I got lucky and got a tree 50% off at Lowes the next day. The Lowes tree was surprisingly fresh! Mom left it up for weeks after Christmas because it smelled so good. Dad and Brother were mad I got a new tree, but when they didn’t have to help me with it and they saw the end product and how happy it made me and mom, they backed off and enjoyed it too. It was small, but beautiful.

Because my mom’s mother is in the bed and will not walk again, we didn’t plan a big Christmas. My dad’s mom had planned to entertain my Uncle and Aunt for the holiday, but they didn’t make it so Mama Marian came to stay with us for Christmas.

On Christmas Eve we hosted my grandmother’s brother’s family. We ate in the living room and it looked pretty so I snapped a picture. It was the only picture I took the whole evening because we had so much fun together. The large amounts of eggnog I consumed also contributed to my forgetting to take pictures.

About the eggnog…
I don’t like regular eggnog and, since I’m lactose intolerant, it doesn’t like me back either. I bought some Silk eggnog and it was DELICIOUS. I drank 4 containers of it over the course of the holiday.

Christmas morning we all got up and enjoyed an Irish breakfast together. Dad always ordered our favorite Irish breakfast foods so we can have a special meal together at Christmas. Bangers, rashers, white pudding, blood pudding, brown bread, eggs, tomatoes and beans. YUM YUM YUM! We gathered at the breakfast table and talked about the fun we had had the night before. Afterwards, we moved to the living room with fresh cups of coffee and opened presents.

We overdid it with presents this year across the board. We all have so much to be thankful for. I received so many wonderful things.

  • A new bathrobe – It’s so hard to find a thick and fluffy bathrobe that is absorbent. My mom found the perfect robe and I use it every day.
  • A labeler – If you know me, you will be surprised to know that I didn’t already have one of these. Of course I love it. By the end of the day, all of the light switches at my parents house were labeled and I let loose in my own home the moment I returned.
  • MZ Wallace tote – My sister gave me a great overnight bag by MZ Wallace. It holds so much and it’s perfect for my weekend trips to my parent’s house.
  • Winter hat – My brother gave me a new winter hat. I didn’t have one and he gave this to me just in time. It snowed right after Christmas and I have been wearing the hat almost every day since.
  • Computer adapter – My brother also gave me an adapter for my new computer. SO HANDY!
  • Headache hat – This is one of the best things ever.

I also got a book, earrings, socks, fun gel pens, and other stocking stuffers. It was all too much, but I am really enjoying every bit of it.

As evidence by the lack of photos, it was a great Christmas.
