REPLACING MY GO TO BLACK HEELS

I have been wearing the same pair of short black suede heels with a bow on the toe for five or more years now. They are worn out and are very uncomfortable now. I have been looking to replace them, but couldn’t find anything similar until this year.

They are basically the same shoes.
I’m delighted.

The Ashlyn Suede Bow Pumps from Ann Taylor are $138.00 online, but during a recent promotion offering 40% off, I purchased these shoes for $82.80 plus tax. These are much more comfortable than my old pair and the heel is just a smidgeon taller which, oddly, makes them easier to walk in.

Ann Taylor has a bunch of great low heels if you want that little bit of lift, but need them to be practical. This may be my first pair of Ann Taylor shoes, but it certainly will not be my last.

SWEATERS, SWEATERS, SWEATERS

I’ve been on quite the spending spree lately and I’m not even the least bit sorry about it.
I had a bunch of sweaters bite the dust last winter and now that it is cold, I have been wearing the same couple of sweaters over and over. I needed to freshen up my sweater game.

Gap made a sweater like this a few years ago and I hate that I only bought one. I didn’t make the same mistake this time. I bought two of this Merino Turtleneck Sweater with Side Slits, one grey and one black.

I also purchased this Ruffle Crewneck in Boiled Wool. I love the color of the sweater and the ruffle is so fun, but the fit was terrible. I read the reviews online and people reported that it fit small. I would say the fit is true to size except for length. This sweater runs very short. I sized up to account for this, but it was still too small. Unfortunately I had to return the sweater.

ALL THE SNAKESKIN

I just realized something. The last two items I purchased through Poshmark were both snake patterned. Maybe the tides are turning from my leopard obsession.

This J.Crew Collection blouse is the favorite top in my closet at the moment. I wear it at least once a week. I don’t know what this top would have originally been, but I bought it for $42.00. I had credit on Poshmark from selling clothes I no longer wear and so I ended up only paying around $28.00 out of pocket.

My sister has put me on to French Sole New York (FSNY) shoes. She wears them to work and can walk through the city comfortably. I do a good bit of walking on uneven surfaces and since being on crutches, my usual heels are no longer an option. In addition to a black pair of FSNY shoes purchased this year, I bought these snake skin flats for $45.00. Again, I had credit from my own Poshmark sales so I only spend about $15.00 out of pocket.

I absolutely love being able to trade in things I never wear for fresh new items!

If you haven’t tried Poshmark, check it out! Check out my “closet” also! There are so many great deals to be had on this site. They have a really great app too.

ANN TAYLOR 50% OFF AND FREE SHIPPING!

Ann Taylor recently threw a really great sale.
Everything was 50% off and they added free shipping!
I took that opportunity to get caught up on my Ann Taylor wish list.

This Boatneck Flare Cuff Blouse has been on my list for a while. I love simple blouses that I can pair with skirts or slacks for work. I was running low on basics so I bought this top in winter white and black. They are pretty affordable to begin with priced at $69.50, but I was ecstatic to buy them at the reduced price of $34.75.

I also bought this simple Satin Trim Keyhole Top for only $29.75. It was originally $59.50.

I have been meaning to replace my old, and in some cases tattered, collared dress shirts with a new set of basics. Mission accomplished!

PRICE MATCH WIN

Always ask if a store price matches. It doesn’t hurt to ask.

A few weeks ago I went to Staples to buy a USB-C adapter for my new MacBook. The prices seemed high and when I scanned the barcode on one of the items, I found that Amazon’s price was lower.

The cord I was buying was $19.99. Amazon was offering the very same cord for $13.60. Apparently Staples offers a lower price guarantee and they took $7.03 off of their sticker price! After tax I spent only $13.83. I was absolutely thrilled!

How did I not know that Lululemon has a sale rack?

The other weekend I was home visiting my grandmother and had some time to kill. I popped over to Birkdale Village and saw they have a Lululemon store. Somehow I had missed that it had been in that shopping center for 3 years already. I just hadn’t noticed. I went in just to look around and see what was new, and then I saw the sale rack. It was pretty picked over, but I did find a great new pair of shorts.

These super light weight shorts were reduced from $68.00 to $49.00. They are my new favorite shorts and they go great with the black top I bought from Target. These Pace Perfect shorts are still on sale online! Get a pair before they are gone!

BLOWING ROCK

A couple of weekends ago, I took a short trip to the little mountain town of Blowing Rock, NC. The town hasn’t changed much as a whole, but the shops have improved significantly and I really enjoyed sticking my head in every one of them. The air is cool there, which makes the flowers last so much longer and beautifully arranged planters and flower beds are everywhere.

I fell in love with a tiny store called Take Heart that happens to be in one of the oldest buildings in the town. They sell flowy tunics, night gowns and little rememberances. I purchased a super cute top ($29.50/could only find the yellow version online), white bon bon ($17.50/not pictured) earrings and a Lulie Wallace lunch pale ($17.50).

Down the way, I popped in Finley House Couture and fell in love with these Susan Shaw earrings. Because I work at a resort built around Equestrian Sport, I had to have them.

I also stopped in a quirky store called Mrs. Brumbles. It was full to the brim with victorian lamps, jeweled figurines and positively littered with funky jewelry. What really caught my eye were the small selection of shawls. They looked just like the cashmere poncho/shawls you would find in a really fine boutique, but they were acrylic and only $30! Of course I bought two… one pale green and one red. I don’t have photographs of them so I will have to post about them when I wear them next.

Blowing Rock is a super cute place with fun restaurants and the scent of fresh fudge billowing rom their centrally located Kilwins can be smelled all over town. It’s a great place to cool off in the summer and a very pleasant place to take a stroll. I’m going to be spending more time there in the summers now that I know how easy it is to get to!
